through October 25, Gavin Rain

We would like to invite you and your art-loving friends to the festive opening of the new exhibition, “Gavin Rain,” on Sunday, September 27, starting at 2:30 p.m. at our gallery in Oisterwijk.

Rain has been painting since he was a child. He studied neuropsychology and art at the University of Cape Town. During his studies, he became fascinated by Pointillism (particularly Seurat), the Russian avant-garde around 1900, and various architects. This is how his own painting style emerged.|

Neopointillism.
Rain developed a unique technique in which he applies concentric dots of acrylic paint to a white canvas, which nevertheless form a concrete overall image.

These dots are composed of various colors, and in the process, 14,000 different color combinations emerged. He works with large (5 layers) and smaller (3 layers) dots. After creating a sketch and using a mathematical layout involving taut strings and projection, he begins painting the dots. Because of the difference in size, the remaining space on the white canvas plays an important role in the overall composition.

You have to step back from the work to observe the image. Up close, the work is abstract; from a distance, it is concrete. Think of pixels and how your eye interprets them.

Through his work, he seeks to convey a message based on Gestalt psychology: the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. View everything from the perspective of the bigger picture, without worrying about individual or isolated events.

This exhibition will be on view in Oisterwijk through Sunday, October 25.
