Exhibition Ben Kleyn

We would like to invite you and your art-loving friends to the festive opening of the new exhibition; Ben Kleyn on Sunday, April 19 from 2:30 p.m. at our gallery in Oisterwijk.
Ben Kleyn will also be present during the opening. This exhibition can be visited through Sunday, May 17. The gallery in Oisterwijk is open Thursday through Sunday from noon.

Ben Kleyn creates unique compositions of (gold) fish, as if they move gracefully and almost weightlessly among swaying aquatic plants. His works evoke a hushed, dreamy underwater world where beauty, tranquility and refinement come together.

From an early age, Ben proved exceptionally creative. In his parents’ restaurant, he drew portraits, which he brought to life by coloring them in his own unique way. These early works soon found their way to various foreign galleries, where they were exhibited and sold. Later he developed into a photographer, also with a strong focus on portraits. With his distinctive look and his own style, he managed to capture many well-known Dutch people in a special way.

“A silent world in itself.”

During the corona period, in his studio in Rotterdam, Ben once again found his way back to drawing and painting. This renewed artistic energy led to his beautiful fish bowls: layered, transparent works of art, constructed with epoxy and acrylic paint. Each work consists of 20 to as many as 60 wafer-thin layers of just a few millimeters. An extremely precise and labor-intensive process that requires a lot of time, patience and dedication, but at the same time brings peace and stillness.

The result is a series of magnificent, fragile art objects in a variety of shapes and sizes. Works that surprise, provoke thought and exude a special serenity. Ben also finds this serenity in another great passion of his: tending bonsai trees.
