Italian sculptor Paola Grizi (b. 1968) has been immersed in the art world since birth. As the granddaughter of a well-known Italian painter/sculptor and the niece of a ceramist, her creativity was stimulated at an early age. This has translated into a successful career as an artist, where she is best known for her unique terracotta and bronze sculptures. For many years, Grizi has been creating incredible portraits that seem to sprout from the pages of books. Cast in both terracotta and bronze, she subtly manipulates compositions to evoke emotion. These mysterious faces seem to flow out of the ether, sometimes with a meditative gaze, sometimes without eyes. Grizi skillfully manipulates her chosen media, with her sculptures constantly evolving into more complex pieces of architecture. The pages of books seem to thin as the “paper” flips and folds to create new dynamic compositions. Because of her passion for the written word, she also focuses on literary works of art. She studied classical and Italian literature and even worked as a journalist and editor before devoting herself to her art career.
