Renée Marcus Janssen is a bronze sculptor. She completed the art academy in Utrecht to specialize in the craft of making bronze sculptures, she decided while studying in Utrecht to study for two years at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Carrara, Italy. During those two years, she cast her work at the Da Prato art foundry in Pietasanta. Working with and alongside the foundry’s artisan, she learned the craft of bronze casting.
Renée Marcus Janssen has a very fine and sensitive way of modeling the clay. Finishing the bronze sculptures herself adds an extra personal touch. Her character portraits of animals in bronze look like a realistically elaborated portrait. Up close it can be seen that certain details are stylized or even simplified. All the images exude a certain calm and serenity, either in the gaze or in the posture of the animal. She manages to capture this in a miraculous way every time.
